A devotional designed to guide you through thinking and applying the truths contained in the article Refreshed in His Presence.
Have you got your Bible, a notebook and a pen? Great, then you're ready! Before you start, why don't you pray and commit the time to God and ask Him to teach you and guide you as you spend time with Him.
Reflect
Firstly, we want to recap what we learnt during our Bible Study. We were talking about waiting on God (Isaiah 40:31; Lamentations 3:25; Psalm 69:6). We gave four key points that are involved in waiting on God, and they were:
1. Repent and turn to the Lord (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9)
2. Cast your burdens on the Lord (Matthew 11:28-30; Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:6-7)
3. Enter into His Rest (Hebrews 4:9-11)
4. Spend time with Him (Psalm 40:1; Psalm 130:5; Psalm 63:1-2)
What stood out to you most when reading through the article? Look up some of the Bible verses again and spend some time thinking about what these verses mean to you today and how you can apply them to your life. Some things you might like to think about based on the above points:
- Where am I in my personal relationship with God?
- Do I have any sin that I need to confess to God? If you do, spend some time talking to God about it and tell Him you're sorry. Remember that as you confess your sin, He forgives you, He does not stay angry with you!
- Are there any burdens or worries that I have been carrying in my heart? Spend some time telling God about your worries and giving them to Him.
- Are you experiencing His rest? Enter into it through faith and obedience.
- Ask God if there are any barriers that are stopping you from receiving His rest
Study
Now we want to think about some of these things a bit more. Look up Psalm 23 in your Bible and read through it. Once you've read through it once, read through it a couple more times until you have a good sense of what it's saying.
Are there any particular verses that stand out to you? Write it out in your notebook and write out your thoughts about that verse. What is God speaking to you through that verse? A good outline you can use is called
SOAP.
S stands for Scripture, choose a verse that stands out to you.
O stands for Observation, what can you see in this verse? What did the writer mean when he wrote it? What does it mean to you today?
A is for Application, how can you apply the truth of this Scripture to your life today? Lastly,
P is for Prayer, pray about what you've just learnt and ask God to help you to put it inot practice, ask Him to make it a reality in your life.
Pray
Finally, spend some time in prayer. You may like to start your prayer time by praising and thanking God for who He is and what He's been doing in your life. Then, lift up your requests to Him, whether it be personal, for your family, for friends or for our nation. Finally, don't forget to pray for the day ahead!
